hi guys,
can anyone please tell me if course fisherman magazine is still being published?
I used to buy this superb mag every month, but since getting back in to fishing and wanting a good read I cannot seem to find this mag anywhere, not even found anything on the net.

just cant understand why they stop publishing great mags like CF but still produce rubbish journals like IYCF and even the weeklies just seem to be an advertising model for a company called "used tackle" or "dragon carp" (who buys this nasty cheap rubbish anyway?)

It comes down to sales figures. IYCF is by far the biggest selling fishing magazine in the UK. I think it still sells over 50,000 per month, about the same as Angling Times does every week. Generally sales figures are far below what they once were for fishing magazines, and advertising revenues have also dropped drastically in the last 3 years. AT once sold 175,000 per week (mid 1970s). CF was struggling for 20,000 per month in the peak summer months and much less in the darks days of winter, and in the end it was no longer viable - simple economics. CAT figures are less than this hence many concerns about it continuing, it seems to have less outside advertising than it needs. It's a grim outlook for the advanced general coarse angler aside from the specialist publications (carp mags mostly). Whether too many 'advertorials' soured the pitch for CF is impossible to say but it may have hastened the demise. IYCF is aimed (like TCF) at a very different market from the churn of beginners, but both are frustrating for more advanced anglers.

I also buy CFT and pike +predator and they are a good read, also bought a couple of copies of TCF and they seem to have changed the format a little, and it now seems to cater for more advanced anglers now! but I do miss CF!

The same thing I presume happened to " Waterlog ",which I thought was the best mag ever. Having advertisers such as Seer Rods, Edward Barder and The Kelly Kettle Company would never have brought in the revenue needed to keep it afloat.

Jack, the weeklies used to support readers letters of complaint against tackle manufacturers,as well as the normal complimentary ones, now they only print the latter, pooping themselves rather than upset potential advertisers, along with the total bullshine written in reviews(apologies,if you've read this from me before),i bought the weeklies since i was 16,i stopped a year or so ago and dont intend to start again soon, attitudes change, but the anglers stupid enough to put their catches into these rags, deserve the inability to get a swim in future.:(

I totally agree Alan.

beerweasal, you can still get waterlog from the publishers the medlar press, talking of whom I used to buy limited edition signed books, but now they just seem to publish a lot of cheap unlimited books and not many special editions. looks like they are going the same way as the mags...whats the world coming too!
