By crikey I'll bet if the wind was in the east the good people of New England would have wondered where the air pollution was coming from.

Burnt potatoes and black chicken would create a bit of activated carbon to absorb the stench I guess.

Enjoyed the article Gary.

I've had a couple of non-fishing holidays on the Beara and it is the most beautiful part of West Cork by far.Much nicer than the more commercialised Ring Of Kerry on the next peninsular up.

The hill walking is superb as is the food.We got friendly with a guy who ran a local oyster farm.The best Oysters we ever had.Straight from the sea.

Where there any Bass about as I know they get them on the fly on that coast a fair bit?

Gary you seem to have some cracking fishing holidays and this is the latest. Ireland is every anglers idea of heaven, both for its fishing and the 'craic' and although I have never been sea fishing it looks as though this is yet another part of fishing that, sadly, I never took the time to experience.

A fishing holiday by yourself is a good holiday and it is only bettered by the company of your mates, you are a lucky man Gary.

Paul Harris who used to work for the Irish Tourist Board as angling advisor has retired to the Beara Peninsula and now has a guest house there .....

I can let you have his address should you want it ....
He has bought a Guest house over there in its own grounds (about 20 acres of farm land ) and is planning to have some self catering accommodation there too
He was telling me the sea fishing there is really good and there is some good brown trout fishing and also some good coarse fishing ...

Excellant article mate. It was you that threw the first spud and it was rock hard as it bounced of my head.

You were right about one thing though.....

This place is on the menu for a return trip without any doubt.

Sounds like a great time was had by all, nice read Gary!

I've only sea-fished a few times in India and this has definitely inspired me to have a go closer to home.

Isn't 'craic' illegal tho? I'd stick to the guiness, fun and good company! ;-0

'craic' is the Irish word for fun or enjoyment

I think you are talking about Poteen (illicit booze)

It was a great place guys and a holiday I would really reccomend.

Nigel - there are bass in areas but we were primarily fishing deep water for rock dwelling species - if that makes sense.

Graham - yeah, I know I'm lucky

Ivan - Sorry mate, about the spud. pity I wasn't sober enough to remember it bouncing off your bonce ;o)

Ron - In all honesty my guts were worse that week than they have ever been. If you think Clattercote and Press Manor were bad you don't wnat to be around me in Ireland...

Sorry Gary but that is like a red rag to a bull.

So for all you readers out there the story that Gary conveniently omitted form his article relates to an unfortunate dead puffin................

On our very first day Gary asked me to help bed some line on his reel. I agreed and and watched as he dissapeared some distance away whilst I was clutching on the end of his line. I then spotted the very dead puffin and not being one to miss an opportunity to take the p..s tied his line to the unfortunate creature and shouted very loudly for Gary to commence winding.

Meanwhile Andy & I rolled around on the floor crying with laughter. When will I ever grow up? Answer... never!
