And the subject is - other angling websites.

Just lately I decided to have a look at a few other angling websites based in this country. I say based here, because some of them stationed in other countries are not too bad.

However the vast majority based here are truly terrible. The language used for a start. and there are no depth to the articles, threads or posts. And worse still, some of the pseudonyms are gross.

I'll give you a few examples:

"Corndawg"
"Maggit"
"Aberdeen Angus"
"Geepster"

I often puzzle at the mentality of such **** Heads. Are they scared of using their real names?

Now I know a few of us use the odd nick-name, and there is nothing wrong with that. But we all know who "The Monk", "Chevin", "Ed" and "Woody", are.

But who are the nameless twits on some of the other websites?

And absolutely no depth nor feeling to these sites. I often wonder if they are antis creating bother for the angling world.

All I can say is that if they don't want to run a website professionally, get off the internet. We can do without such utter dross!

Big arfs Ron, the thing is mate you know the 'yokels' on this site as you're on here a lot, I suppose if we frequented other such places we might well get to know one or two there as well.

I take your point though, other sites arent anywhere near as communal as this!

So Alan,

Why does he not call himself by his proper name?

The Monk is "The Monk" alias Nick Melling. One of the great characters of British angling. Anyone who has read angling literature back to the 70s to the dark days of the "ultra-cult" movement will know who The Monk is. And he lives today, after having fished in stew ponds for 500 years!

There are few people who have done more than my illustrious mate Brother Nicholas for the art of angling, time banditry, and the Ruffe Slapper Appreciation Society.

)

Woody is Jeff Woodhouse, a tireless worker for his own angling club and a great ambassador for the sport of angling as a whole.

Who else do you want to know about?

OK Deanos, my name is Ronald Edward Clay, born in Handsworth, Sheffield 1942. Son of a soldier in the RASC, Plumber and finally head of a Sheffield Waterworks Depot.

I am proud of my dad.

I have fished since I was a kid.

"my name is Ronald Edward Clay"

and how do we know that?

if people on here can use nicknames, what is wrong with people on other sites doing the same?

Do you want me to send you my social Security Number, Passport Number, Drivers Licence Number, Bus Pass Number, SA ID Number, SA Drivers Licence Number, Kenyan Drivers Licence Number, etc, etc, together with signed affidavits from my family solicitor.

I will do so.

And I could get together at least 40 other people in business and angling, who know me well, to vouch for me.

The point is - does our esteemed editor use a pseudonym?

Of course not.

I repeat a hundred thousand million times - WHAT FOR?

WHY?

Our esteemed editor is Graham Marsden who has one of the finest angling CVs in this country, if not - The World.

(Oh by the way mate can you see your way to letting me have a couple of K - pay you back next week)

Oh shut up Clay!

i will send you my address ;@)

but seriously, at the end of the day, to most of the visitors on here unless they hang around and join in, you could be anyone. same as the names cakey, the monk, d.b etc mean nothing to people unless they join in the banter, or know them from elsewhere. so does it really matter what name you use?

"WHY?"

because he can?
because he wants to?
because its the name his friends call him?

who cares, at the end of the day a name is a name.

You have only to look at a person's profile and you will see who is posting.

A name in my opinion is a little bit more than a name.

People who think that just might be a tad worried about where they hail from.

I am not, and my best mate Ed, although he gets a lot of flack from me about being a Scouser, is still a very good mate.

It's such a shame that he is a Scouser.

)
