Trout are voracious feeders and the bait is best fished deep in pools. I found that when bait fishing, groundbait with the hookbait the evening before the session. It brings trout into the swim.
Keep low to the horizon... though avid eaters, they can be very skittish. look out for undercut banks, rocky outcrops and trees near or in the water too. Worm, bread and cheese are great baits fishing like this as well as with minnows if you can get them too. I believe that the pre bait session in those wild small streams is very important. Do NOT groundbait when you fish it next day. I reckon, if fish came into the pool/swim, you can expect a couple before they skit out.
