Can any of you folk recommend me some decent (bright/coloured) Isotopes for tip of rod . I've been using the Drennan ones that come with attachments but I'm hoping there's something similar but brighter out there .

well i purchased the drennans last year and I wasn't very happy with them then and I used them again last night and they seem even duller than I remembered . Perhaps its a different colour that im looking for .

And there is nothing wrong with my eyesight before anyone comments lol

Drennan Super specialist isotopes? I find them excellent........ BTW tryed placing one near a Geiger-Muller tube and did not detect any radiation emmitted from the source - what ever it is encased in must absorb the energy. Got more clicks from a packet of Brazil nuts - could try those - but they do not glow!:D

A word of warning, isotopes can be fragile - my mate bought some isotopes and bust both of them first time he used them. the drennan ones are designed to be used on the rod and mine are still bright after 6years.

I told you to get a Light House, there'd have been none of this nonsense if you had just gotten a Light House :p

I used to use them inserted in clear silicone tube and whipped to my rod tips when winter Carp fishing at night, and yes I caught many Carp by watching the tips after dark, sometimes this was just a tremble one the tip and no sound from the bite alarm!

Isotopes are also sealed, crack one and thats it.

I always carry the snap and glow as a backup just in case. The problem now, they have been in my bag for years, I wonder if they have gone Radio active...........:eek:.

I will have to snap one and see what happens, I might end up like the lads on Only Fools and Horses.when they had the paint......:wh

There's a quick and easy way to tell if they are leaking any radio activity, apparently one of the first signs is that your hair turns Orange :wh

Beta isotopes start radioactive but decay overtime to form more stable isotopes. All the radiactive particles are absorbed by the casing of the isotope so IMO they are completely harmful (unless crunched in the mouth and then ingested:eek: - there you have been warned).

That Russian Agent discovered what the signs were regarding that special radioactive element, polonium. I think he lost his hair, his skin began to break down, his internal organs grew tumours and was bleeding from orrifices that shouldn't......... Radiation doesn't glow. I believe the emmitted energy 'excites' particles on the inner surface of the isotope..

I think isotope rod fittings are fine - just avoid Rusian dissidents and Polonium Sushi.
