Hi Fred nice article. Just one comment if you are serious about eels don't bother with lobs stick a rudd section on after dark on a free running rig using quick silver as the hook length. With such a head of silver fish your lobs will not last long! If you want some help let me know!

I've not used super mantis but if its a normal braid probably not. You could try a fine wire trace - I use Drennan soft strand. It would be a shame to hook a big one then get bitten off..better safe than sorry as you only usually get one chance with eels.

Iv'e used super mantis Fred (the coated stuff). Had loads of eels on it with no problem.
