Stick float making

Hi
Broke my last 6x8 cane stem stick float today. Bloody trees Unfortunately Maver don't make them in this size anymore, and neither do any other companies it would seem.
Does anyone know where I could buy some really light cane stem floats (nothing above 2x4) or alternatively have any advice or links to sites on how to make my own, as I've priced up tonkin cane and balsa dowel on ebay and reckon it can't be that hard.
