Lovely writing. Look forward to the next episode.

A mate of mine showed me just how effective Big Bud could be one on the Welland. In an hour, he had three double to 16-8, the next day a 21 and six other fish on it.

The technique was to retrive very slowly, so the spinnerblade tapped on the beercan rythmically. Enough to drive anyone nearby on the p*** but clearly also stirring up the pike, which hammered it.

I have noticed, however, that surface lures seem to lose their effectivness quite quickly each summer; on virgin waters, they are superb, then everything dwindles away.

Or maybe I'm doing something wrong...

I used to have a Big Bud in SA. Caught loads of bass with it. The strange thing was when you hooked a bass on this lure they seemed to behave as through they were 10 sheets to the wind.

Hell, how I miss those fish!!
