Line onto spool

This may seem totally obvious - I've been away from angling for quite a few years - but can anyone tell me how to attach line to a reel spool?

Richard.
Put some backing line on your spool first. Ask in your local tackle shop if they will do this for you and they will fill your spool to the correct depth before attatching your new main line.
