Does anybody out there run there own fishery?

One day I would like to do this but:

Where do you start?

What qualifications/experience do you need?

All comments welcome.

Thanks
Dave

I think the essential requirement is lots of cash to buy a fishery.

You might be interested in a book by Barry Rickards, "A fishery of your own" published in the 80's. Full of lots of good ideas. It's out of print, you may find one in 2nd hand book-sellers specialising in Angling such as Coch y Bondhu (not certain if the Welsh spelling is right).

Try as well the Institute of Fisheries Management.

The EA used to publish booklets with basic advice on the ecology of fisheries.

I believe there is a lot more involved than first imagined!
To make ends meet, you need to earn at least ?150 per day.
If you have any dam walls then there is an inspection charge of ?5,000 which is compulsory.
This is besides EA water checks etc.
Insurance of all types.

Dig hole, fill with water, stock with carp.

End of story. Or so some "commercial owners" think!

Oops, sorry, should have posted this on a new thread, it's never been discussed on this forum before!

David, do a google search, UK fishing lakes for sale, or similar.

800k+ for a half decent one!

Good luck, I backed out from doing it.
