Has anyone tried a clove of garlic as hook-bait? Either on a river for barbel or as a tench/carp bait?
(Awaiting the vampire cracks :) )

No! but you can get pure garlic powder from certain pet food suppliers - i think they give it to horses as a supliment. Could be good in cheese paste?

never used a clove as bait but always include it in my barbel baits, i get mine from countrywide at £8.50 for a kilo, much cheaper than bait companies.
