You will get a lot more replies if you fill in your profile a bit 
In my experience JW doesn't put his name to shoddy goods. I have his Avon 1.25 and have used the 1.5 and 1.75 and they are superb rods. His pike system will probably be equally as good.
That said you do not need a new rod for live/ deadbaiting if you have carp rods in the 2.25-2.75tc bracket. The essential thing is bite indication so use sensitive alarm/ float set ups and be vigilant at all times.
