ECHO PRESS RELEASE
ECHO/SAA TO LAUNCH TRADE INITIATIVE AT CS SHOW

In the last decade, commercial drivers have catapulted the angling and fisheries related industries into the world of international trade, and the issues arising from this situation can no longer be dealt with effectively by well meaning individuals without support from the industry that drives it.

Thanks mainly to the voluntary commitment over many years from the SAA, and more recently the initiative of unity from ECHO/CS/BCSG that became the Fish Welfare Group, ECHO/SAA are now leading a radical movement to secure funding and support for political representation for angling and fisheries.
The Fish Welfare Group has already established clear practice guidelines through recognised Codes of Practice, as required by Defra to bolster any regulation. This position has been achieved through the foresight of various small angling groups, attempting to protect their pursuit.

In support of Defra?s commitment to tighter legislation regarding fish health from 2007, ECHO/SAA are calling upon angling/fishery related industry to play their part in the self-regulation and promotion of ethical trade.

Defra?s recent change in position regarding KHV, enables the fish supply industry to trade on the basis of health assurances, allowing the government to focus on any outbreaks.

ECHO/SAA are inviting forward thinking companies to support this trade initiative, as the organisations believe that industry has an obligation to the protection of the health and welfare status of UK fish stocks for the future. This initiative is designed to secure much needed funding for angling political representation to continue and is planned for the Saturday evening between the 2 day Carp Society Show at Sandown Park, to give industry every opportunity to attend.

Only by instigating this support from industry can ECHO & SAA catalyse on the incredible position already achieved by a very small group of committed individuals. For a sustainable future for fisheries and angling in the UK, angling related industry must be persuaded of the ?backdoor? benefits of supporting this initiative, and be aware of the outcome of their trade if they do not.
