Say what you will about the Barbel Society (and there are plenty who have had some unflattering things to say about them) but this is a great achievement and a fitting answer to those who wonder what they are about.

Yes a great idea but was there any reason it was limited to members only?Surely more money would have been made if it was open to all to bid? I would have been tempted to have a dabble but I certainly was not going to join for the privilege.Curious thats all.

Interesting point Nige, I asked the question at the time about bidding and was told you needed to become a member, Like you I thought more money could have possibly been raised if non members were allowed to participate.

Still, it's their trainset, hopefully the BS got some new members out of it. Some good bits and bobs up for auction as I remember.

i`d be interested to know how the barbel society compares against other specialised groups like the carp society etc.... when it comes to raising funds and membership etc.... theres no doubt that they are still as popular as ever and can hold their own.
