I am planning to try my luck for a salmon on the day ticket waters on the Lune around Halton. Not having fished here or for salmon before I would appreciate any information on beats, tackle, best conditions etc. I am usually a coarse angler so will be spinning / worming.

In high water the E.A's Halton Top beat fishes well with a spinner. Try a flying C black.

Location
North Lancashire
Gravel bed where pipeline crosses river, directly below the old railway bridge at Crook O Lune, and the rocks upstream that are visible from this bridge are the hotspots. Upper Halton is a good beat on biggish waters ie. 3-4 feet at Caton.

Three of us virgins fished on Wednesay. None landed but Matt hooked a salmon. Met a very helpful local chap who gave us loads of advice and bits of tackle and bait. A thoroughly enjoyable if very wet day. Will be back to try again next season!
