One hundred trout have been killed in a double pollution incident at a stream at East Taphouse near Liskeard, the Environment Agency has confirmed. The first incident was reported yesterday by a member of the public who noticed a strange smell coming from the water.
Environment Agency officers believe the pollution was caused by substances leaching out of the nearby Connon Bridge landfill site.
While testing the stream, they also discovered pollution in the same stretch apparently caused by farm slurry.
Investigations into both sources of pollution were continuing today.
