hi i just put some new elastic in my pole, i went for the 14-18 hydroelastic (purple) but i am not sure what strength of line to use with it to get the best results fishing for carp around 12lbs

If you're expecting double figure carp I would go for the Red Hydro used in conjunction with one of the winder type bungs. Make sure your pole can take it though.

0.16 should be plenty strong enough unless you are looking at pulling carp out of snags or lilly pads, but really does depend on what sort of pressure you want to apply with your pole.
