Slurry entering a tributary of the West Looe river may have been responsible for the death of more than 100 trout, the Environment Agency said this week.Investigations are still continuing into two pollution incidents last week in Cannon stream near Trevillis Woods.

People had reported the stream had become discoloured and had a foul smell.

Agency staff initially found 85 dead trout but the following day discovered another 25 further downstream.

Although a small watercourse, the stream supports a good number of trout and acts as a nursery.

The Agency's Mark Pilcher said: "A fish kill of over 100 trout of different ages represents a significant impact on this small stream, and we will now investigate the causes and whether any legal action will be taken.''
