Boat users on the River Thames will be restricted by lock closures
Navigation of the River Thames will be restricted by a series of lock closures this winter to allow for a ?4.75m upgrade of facilities.

From Wednesday, river use will be restricted along a stretch from Teddington Lock, London, through to Rushey Lock in Oxfordshire.

The largest project is at Bray Lock, in Maidenhead, Berks, where ?700,000 is being spent on a major refurbishment.

Out of hours power will be installed at Osney, Abingdon, Caversham and Bray.

Paul Power, the Environment Agency's engineering manager for the River Thames, said the work has been possible due to extra funding from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

"We are continuing to maintain, develop and modernise the River Thames in line with the needs of today's river users," he said.

Other improvements include a ?500,000 refurbishment of Days with new lock walls, a ?350,000 new tail lay-by at Clifton and new lock gates at Osney and Pinkhill.

Mr Power added: "I'm sure boaters and other visitors will enjoy the improvements next summer."

Perhaps someone could find out what affect it will have on the fishing?? Will it be closed off to everyone etc???
