Reasons why I fish for pleasure -:

I've a stressful job and this is my chill pill.
The challenge of catching from a wild water.
The wildlife.
The peace & quiet.
The solitude.

mmmmm - better go fishing now

Errrrrrrrrrr.......can't think of anything else, oh, oh, I got some housework, shopping, gardening & decorating, the enemy of the outdoor enthusiast.;-}~

Seriously the list is exactly what I would have said, along with good company, the odd fish and the time to take a deep breath.

I go fishing because angling is an obsession.

I could not imagine life without angling. If for some reason I could not fish in the future I would end my life.

Why do I go fishing? I really haven't got the faintest idea. I could make all the normal responses (& they would all be true)but I don't think that they are the major reason. I do know that fishing has been my whole life since I started at about 8 yrs of age. There have been a few times that I have felt like giving it up but something always comes along to revive my interest. If you ever feel should give up - don't, try a different branch of the sport. Specialise on a species or try pole fishing, or sea fishing. You will find that when you go back to whatever styles of fishing that you did in the past you will actually be better at it than you were before. BTW I have been match angling for the past 12 yrs or so & within the last couple of years I have not enjoyed my fishing so much so I have recently started pike fishing again & some of the old excitement has returned. When you have fished as long as I have (over 50 yrs) You will be able to write long boring missives to angling forums! On which happy note I will bore you no longer.

ps. Why do I go fishing? - buggered if I know

Because thinking about the next fishing trip is the only way I can get through work all week.

and if the only alternative was shopping, well, pass me that noose !

Originally it was because my Dad thought it would teach me self-discipline (That's what he told my Mum anyway). Myself I think that I was at that age when I wouldn't break any of his tackle, He had nearly forgot how to because it had been nearly 10 years!! (He must really love my Mum because I couldn't go 10 days! despite what various girlfriends have thought or said!), he didn't want me roaming the streets and he could see I wasn't the most sporty type.
So overall like most things in life I can happily blame me old man!

none of my family like fishing, but it hasn't stopped me. i am 15 and have been fishing since i was about 8. i love the sport and i don't think that anything could replace it. i would be bored without fishing, just be hangin around the streets like all the others. both me and my friend go fishing as often as we can, neither do his parents like fishing. most of our other friends have gone off the sport doing other "more fun" stuff. we can't really fish anywhere distant, cos we can't get there. we only fish locally, were actually quite lucky really as we live near the water park. which is full of different lakes.
i like to go fishing as it gets the pressure of school off my back, it's relaxing, and is nice to be there really early and avoid all the noise. just peace and quiet.
overall we go when we can. and always enjoy every minute of it.
from
a very keen angler

It's just in my blood. No other sport or pastime has the 'soul' that fishing has.

After my family, it's the most important thing in my life.

I also like golf but I don't spend time thinking about it when I'm not doing it - if that makes sense!

No Work
No Women
No Kids

Usually no fish but the other three make up for that.

The wife doesn't like me smoking at home and being the considerate chap that I am I go and sit by the river and smoke.
Sometimes I have to stop on the way home and drink beer.
God, it's hell isn't it.

It's because I can smoke, fart, scratch, eat lovely unhealthy food, tell non PC jokes and daydream without aggro from the current Mrs Will or some jumped up left of Lenin amazon at work. I can put all those hours of thinking fishing and hatching foolproof plans in to action only to find the plans are not foolproof and have to start all over again on Monday.

My reasons for fishing!

I get sick of my Mam shouting 'Get your bedroom tidied!!', Do this do that!!

Its better than watching the box and getting square eyes!

I`ve been fishing since the age off eight and cant stop thanks to my half cousin and uncle!!

My parents think that it a good thing for me to do!

My Dad thinks that when we go fishing its a match every time and the last few times he's lost !!! ha ha ha!

To annoy PETA!!! only joking

To keep away from them money beggers also known as girlfriends or wives!

To feel Happy!

To forfil my needs!

To keep of the streets and away from coppers ( as I`m only 15)

and to show that fishing isn't as boring as people think!!!

To spend every penny I get or ern! however expensive it may be!

And to meet all of you guys and other friends that go fishing!

But apart from that I`m not quite sure!!
