Wales swept the board at the Dreamstore Active awards presentation in October. Fishing Wales, a partnership between Environment Agency Wales and Visit Wales scooped two, while two fisheries based in Wales picked up three more between them.

Dreamstore Active is a charitable organisation. They hosted the awards ceremony, sponsored by Bank of Scotland Corporate in Kenilworth, Warwickshire on 21 October 2006.

* Fishing Wales which undertakes work to improve, protect and promote Welsh fisheries won two awards. The first was for conservation work undertaken to improve habitat for fish, while the second was for being the best agency or business involved in the promotion of fishing, particularly for its Fishing Wales tourism marketing work.

Rhys Llywelyn, Fishing Marketing and Training Officer was delighted saying: ?These awards are for the hard work and dedication of the Fishing Wales team and it is an honour to receive them on behalf of so many. These awards not only recognize the quality of habitat and fish stocks in Wales but also enhance Wales? image as a tourism destination among the angling community.?

* Cwm Hedd fishery near Newport, Gwent won the Social Inclusion award and also received a Gold award from the British Disabled Angling Association (BDAA) ?Approved Fisheries Award Scheme?.

* The biggest applause of the evening went to Mark and David Owen of Teglan Fishery near Aberaeron. They who were awarded the Platinum Award ?Approved Fisheries Award Scheme? by the BDAA, making it the only fishery in the UK to achieve this status.

Minister for Environment, Planning and Countryside, Carwyn Jones AM said:

?In 2002, I announced additional funding to develop and promote our fisheries. The work that we are doing to promote fishing in Wales has great benefits, both for our economy, environment and in social terms. These awards are confirmation of improvements already made. The work that individual fishery owners are doing and can do is also recognised and is to be applauded and supported. ?
