Something I have tried is to sink a bag full of liquid flavour to the bottom with some tiny holes in it to create a sort of flavour slick on the bottom. Its best to make sure that the liquid you use is heavier than water (test it in a glass). Can't say that I found it to make a major difference but I have not used it very much....you tend to end up getting very wet!!!!
