Argos fishing tackle

When i made the switch from seafishing to coarse/carp angling about 12 years ago i bought several things from argos and they are all still sevicable today. Unlike the cheap tat the supermarkets have been toying with over the last couple of years, argos offer a real entry/budget level selection with a few little bargains we would all use hidden in there as well.

Very good tackle for the price, a tackle shop can't offer the same deal.

I wonder how long this one will last??

Serious point though.Should be allowed to post critical comments regarding advertisers products or indeed services where they are justified. I suppose it is the manner in which it is done and it may help them improve those products/services in the future.

Tackle has always been availble from the big catalogue companies.I recall my very first Mitchell 300 came from Littlewoods or the like in the late seventies. It would be good to think that they are getting some specialist input from an experienced angling consultant so that their undoubted value for money is matched to a good usable product. The bigger the sources of fishing tackle then the greater the encouragemnt for non-anglers to take up the sport.I also think that the liklihood ofgetting good advice from tackle shops as a beginner is exaggerated. In too many shops I have been in, it has been a case of being in with the gang.I have felt hesitant in asking for advice never mind the parent of a non-fishing youngster.

Nigel, very often posts or complete threads get deleted due to the way they were worded rather than what was said.

There is no bar on FM regarding constructive criticism, whether that criticism is of FM, me personally, a manufacturer or a retailer.

But if that criticism is seen as being unfair, offensive, or out of order in any other way, and the critic is unable to take a hint, then very often moderators are left with no alternative.

Let's hope this new thread can remain.

Sorry Graham, I was being a little flippant in my first comment.

I am glad you have clarified the position and take your point as to how that criticism should be expressed. As I stated above, I think criticism or feedback, call it what you will, is of benfit to retailers like Argos who may perhaps be relatively new to the market.

Yes i have Ed but i note there is an undercurrent, with people saying not to mention the A word and such. However i am innocent of all charges. Just responding to the argos feature on the front page.

OK, tackle tarts, I own up, I bought an argos waistcoat in about 1998 for small river fishing, I was younger then and needed the money. It's still AOK, cost me about 14rips if I remember rightly.

I also got a wychwood rogue speci rod, which I basically stole, thanks to finding out about a sale there (10english pounds).

They had Shimano baitrunners for ?40ish not long back, but having just purchased similar from specialist tackle (please note advertisers, it does work) I didnt pile in!

I've got one of the "pop up bivvies"......it isn't totally waterproof but it keeps most of the rain out....i can pack it into my rod holdall and pull it out and pop it up in less than a minute....it fits into tight swims and it's light.

For one nighters in overgrown swims it is OK!!

I only paid ?25 notes for mine....then i painted it with ronseal.

And yes i have tried "top of the range bivvies"........and also truck tarpaulins!

No Wend.........i was lucky, a pal bought it, never used it so i made him an offer.

I wouldn't use it for deep winter fishing to be honest, but it's ok for most things.

I love mine....it's been good to me!

My motto is you get what you pay for! You could probably get most things that Argos sell from Used Tackle at Hucnall, when i started carp fishing i bought cheap and within a few months i was replacing every thing.Plus in Argos you have to que 3 times to get anything.Tesco have started selling gear and when i worked for Asda i used to tell a directer to get into the tackle trade and i would organise it, they didnt listen then and now Tesco are selling it they probably will do to.
