Hi guys,

I am on Telewest Broadband and it keeps going down?

If I un-plug/re-plug in my modem for a few minutes it's ok. It stays online for a while then goes again and it's running very slow.

Any suggestions? Please, it's doing my nut in!

Cheers guys and gals.

Steve.

You could phone Telewest and they will test your connection,or go to the service page[if you can stay on long enough]and see if they are doing any maintenance in your area.

Sounds like a faulty modem to me i had same sort of problem.
They sent another and it was fine.
Changed to sky broadband now with 16mb download speed.

Steve,
I was with this "shower" for two years, I had nowt but trouble with my connection, and my only regret on leaving them was that I was unable to ring someones neck for the hassle they caused me!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I have been with tiscali for a couple of years, and have not had one problem.

SMILEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Cheers Dave, it seems to stay on for about 30mins so I will be gone soon!

Is there an internet setting that has a timer for connection? It might have been my young un messing around with things!

I will ring Telewest tomorrow, I also have sky tv, do they do a package?

Dodgy line/dry joints on connection/auxilliary phone/filter/network card...... iffy modem possibly if supplied by NTL, possibly firewall/software fault, have you tried to roll back to a point before the fault began?
Have you scanned for nasties?
Download 'System Mechanic' and use the fully working trial to optimize your PC's performance and find and fix faults.

The only trouble with sky is the call centres if you have a problem.

Expect a long wait on the phone.

Just type the name into your browser, I've never used it, but my lad swears by it considering the crap he puts into his machine, he's almost at a standstill sometimes and that sorts him out .....

If you already have sky they do three packages.

The Base package is free with free router and 2mb download speed, plus 2gb of usage.

The mid package is five pound, free router 8mb download speed.plus 40gb usage

And max is ten pound with router and up to 16mb download speed.plus unlimited usage.

Sky are doing free movie downloads now which you can put onto disc.but there's a catch.
Takes roughly around 7 mins to download, but the crafty gets have made it so you can only watch them on the PC that downloaded them.

Another virus scan to try is House Call its free and it finds things Norton and Mcafee don't.
Although its an online scan, and takes a while to do, so it may not be possible with your intermittent connection.

Telewest? Part of NTL?? If so.. C**P!

Of all the Broadband suppliers I've used, I have to say BTInternet are very good.

They've been excellent and I've had very few problems with them (famous last words!). We did have some issues with going wireless but their help desk was superb. Spoke plain English and were very helpful (much to my surprise).
