The Govt. is considering amending the Freedom of Information Act, which came into force only 12 months ago. The amendment will curtail the rights of individuals, organisations and the press to make requests to a public bodies.

They talk about introducing a 60 day time period between requests made to a particular public body. At the moment there is no time period or curtailing on the number of requests the above can make, other than if the request is considered to be vexatious.

The consequences for angling organisations could be that they would be stopped from perusing a complex issue with the EA, Utility Company, DEFRA, etc, which for whatever reason, they weren?t forthcoming on with the information.

There is complex clause that would allow the public body to aggregate out the cost over cases to the individual, organisation, etc and refuse a request because it takes it over the maximum of ?450 of work.

What this Govt. is now attempting to do is cut the balls of the act it brought into being.

I don?t know about you, but I find that an utter disgrace and curtailing of my rights hard won over many, many years!

If you feel as strongly about it as I do, please consider signing the petition being run by Tom Griffin.

So come on Members please get it signed to maintain your angling organisations tools to do the job you want them to do for angling.

Don't let this Govt or any other get away with it through apathy!
