Sorry I am either blind or missing Carp reference's on the trotter today.
J W Youngs Trotter
That is from J, W, Youngs home site.
I have all the J. W. Young rods and almost all the reels they do and from personal experience (and yes I paid a lot more for mine before they became so discounted) they are excellent although nothing like as light as the Drennan's or ABU's I have. My friend Clive (aka Crucian Clive) has a very bad back and shoulder and prefers the Drennan's, I however prefer the Youngs and shortly I will be posting a review of all the Youngs rods and most of their reels on my website - for any who have not visited it
I do not sell anything - its just for me to post reviews and maybe a a bit on bait and soon a few angling tales...hehehe
The trotter for me is an excellent rod but I still regularly use both cane and some old ABU hollowglass rods from the 1960's and 1970's as I find the action quicker on the strike than my more modern carbons and I get a faster and longer pick up when trotting or Dace bashing.
With my 13' Trotter I have had Carp (river Carp that is) on a waggler at about 50+ yards which was only a small one but I landed it (very low doubles) I have even used it for Tench when float legering just for fun. However for Chub and Roach a most excellent rod and even dace at a distance although where I chase Dace is only between 1' and 2' deep (30cms and 600cms) over a small gravel bed. I like to test my rods very hard. I must add I was not fishing for Carp I was after Chub.
Disadvantage of Young's rod's they are not the lightest but the action is excellent and I feel confident when using them, Ronnie has even used his trotter for light Barbel searching and has had some quite respectable Barbel on it (Ronnie always was more than a little more crazy than I am).
Especially so as just after I bought it a fellow angler posted on a forum that the handle breaks in half without warning all of my mates have used all of the Young's rod range and thoroughly liked them enough to buy themselves Young's rods, except Clive who prefers a much lighter rod's (Drennan's Ultralight 14' match pro being his favourite rod for the Suffolk, Cambridge, Essex and Norfolk Rivers), although he has bought himself both their travel rods...hehehe The Young's traveling rods are the best traveling rods I have ever used with no stops or hang-ups and as perfect a curve as you can find and certainly equal to the curve on a on a three piece.
At the price you can get them for on the net I don't see how you can go wrong. Plus they come in a great case although if I am taking more than one rod, I slip the rods into lightweight clear plastic tubes, though that is just me and my weight moving restrictions. The rods are as at home with fixed spool reels as they are centrepins. I can thoroughly and with confidence recommend the J.W.Young's Trotter and If anyone lives near enough me I am happy to go off for an afternoon or morning or evening with you and you can try any of them. I will even do that if you are visiting the area But I cannot fish for over 6 hours at a session without a break.
