In recent months much has been made of the lack of response from members when fish-ins are organised compared to those a few years ago. I suspect there are many, like myself, who are limited by the time available to fish or the cost implications of long distance sessions. The latter seeming to be the most common reason for non attendance. There only a few midlands anglers on this forum, yet geographically this region would seem to be the most accessable to everyone. My knowledge of local waters is somewhat limited but I would be willing to investigate if there was sufficient interest and perhaps some of the more local members such as Blanker, Steph, Berty etc could provide some input.

Fish-ins are usually going to be on weekends. I work shifts and work as many weekends as not. I am interested in the odd fish-in but everything has to work out which isn't very likely. While the social aspect does appeal, the fishing venue has to be attractive for me to bother. I won't travel to go for a booze up with strangers on a rubbish venue, even if I do happen to be off work.

Would the likes of Earlswood or Moorlands farm be fitting venues?

Could be but possibly not for me. They seem like match venues. Not a problem as such, I'm not averse to any type of coarse fishing, but it's not likely that you could bivvy, camp and socialise on site. That would mean accomodation costs coming into it or having to drive home without participating in the post fishing drinking

The way fish ins usuallywork is this.

Someone (a member or FM employee) has an idea for a fish-in and a particular venue.

They put it up on the forum to gather interest - perhaps with a couple of suggested dates with some prices for tickets and info on the venue.

Place, date and time are set.

A list of interested people gradually grows.

The day comes and most turn up.

You will not get a venue or a day that will suite everyone (er......potentially 60,000 so just as well really) - so just go for it.

Usually between 5 and 30 people turn up.

It is possible; another fishing website had a weekend fishing/social at Larford, and they don't get more 'commercial' than that place.
Most bivvied-up for the weekend with a few opting for the local B&B, but the weekend was a great success both from a social as well as a fishing viewpoint.

Not a problem if it's a commercial that allows overnight stays. However, most of the match style commercials that I know, that are similar to the two examples given, kick everyone off at dusk. Larford certainly would appeal to me. What little I know of it, mostly from Matt Hayes programmes, would suggest a good mixed fishery with a chance of some belting fish of all species.

Paul,
That's not good then. Any venue of similar ilk (decent carp, tench, bream, roach, perch, crucians etc) would get my interest though, as would good river venues.

had a super Fish-in on the Itchen for grayling. geoff maynard organised the trip and followed it up with an article. the location was fantastic and gave me the first chance to catch a grayling and meet up with members who contribute on FM...

As posters are probably aware, I rarely fish day ticket waters apart from a couple of exceptions from time to time. There is a water however, the 'specimen' lake of two, that is run by a long term acquaintance of mine. It is approx 5 acres holds carp (mostly mid doubles with a fair head of 20's/few 30's) tench to small doubles, crucians to 4lb+, snotties 6-8lb, roach and rudd 2lb+ perch to 4lbish and a head of rogue chub from the adjacent R. Frayes when it floods. Bivvies allowed Fri-Sun and a hotel (with a large bar and about 20 rooms) a few yards (about 30) from the lake for more a bit more comfort. The only problem is that it's down South.

PS I've just noticed Chav's post before I hit the button and the Ichen sounds great.

Now then...I rather think I know the place you're talking about Jerry ;)

Not for the faint hearted but loads of fish for sure. The Itchen is nice too but you can't get much more South than Southampton.

I'd be up for a fish-in no problem, I love them, been going to a few weekend socials organised on another forum for several years now, we do around five a year, great craic and good to see same faces each year, as well as new ones.

There's always the odd c u next tuesday you wanna drown though but it takes all sorts to make up this wonderful world.

Ha ha ha....as I suspected. Talk about a home game !

That itchen trip was a 400 mile round trip:eek::eek::eek::eek: But it was worth it to catch a Grayling and fish a 'famous' river......

I find i am prepared to travel more and more for good quality fishing - but usually make a weekend of it and sleep in Hotel van de combo......

Off to the Swale with the CSG next month - but treating myself to 'real' accomodation.......
