New partnership means good news for wildlife and anglers

Our new partnership with the Association of Rivers Trusts (ART) spells good news for rivers and the wildlife they support. It will mean better fishing opportunities for anglers and give a much needed boost to rural economies by encouraging tourism. With our joint effort, both in time and money, we'll be directly improving fisheries, biodiversity and recreation opportunities.

Working closer together means we can share research and best practices. We'll also run projects together to improve rivers and the habitat around them, as well as the fisheries they support. In addition to economic benefits from increased tourism, this work has tremendous social benefits, helping people enjoy and take pride in their local environment.

Despite spending millions of pounds on our work already, joining forces on funding bids will mean even more money spent directly on improving salmonid, coarse and trout fisheries.

Dr Dafydd Evans, Head of Fisheries at the Environment Agency, said "Working together like this also helps us to realise the wider environmental, social and economic benefits that our fisheries make to England and Wales - providing recreation and enjoyment for up to 4 million anglers and already worth ?3 billion to the UK economy as a whole."

While we have been working with ART locally for some time, this more formal partnership will bring considerable benefits to our work in improving wildlife and recreation along the rivers and wetlands we look after.
