Ok we are having loads of rain at the minute and the rivers are flooding... Why do the canals not get flooded?

most canals drain into rivers -- (and are controlled by lock gates)

Canals are man made water ways made to carry barges.....the water content is controlled by man.

Rivers are made by Mother nature, to carry water, they are unpredictable and the water volumne is controlled by the elements.

No Man or Woman can stop nature.

Floods!

Was down in the land of my birth today. River Stour about 10 miles wide at Wimborne. The Avon around Ringwood looked like the ocean.

All perfect for searching out those little pockets on the backwaters and sidestreams.

Back home, there was more water running down the local high street than in the local canal!!
