A few weeks ago there I was on the last swim of the afternoon suitably baited up and waiting for darkness.
Then the tell tale stream of needle bubbles went by, an otter on the move.
Oh dear I though thats my chances down the swanee.
Shortly afterwards round whent the rod and a very nice chub came to the net. The size my quite large hands cannot span the back of the head to pick out of the net, loverly.
Followed quickly by another the same size.
Then in the gathering gloom there was the otter swiming from the area where I had hooked both chub.
The otter dissapeared upstream.
Three more reasonable chub followed before I packed in an hour after the first one.
The though struck which species does the otter prey on any specific fish or just whats available at the time.
Of the larger species the river has some salmon, sea trout, lots of pike, perch, barble, chub, big bream and barble. Then a good head of roach dace greyling and trout.
This is not the first time I have seen an otter and caught shortly before or after the sighting.
