A reminder to us of what was once common in South Wales - rivers running "Bible Black" with coal dust and spoil from the mines and their slagheaps, from the outflows of the iron and steel works, dead for at least a couple of centuries from the run-off of lead mines and the like. And some of us have the temerity to complain about rivers being "too clean for fish" these days...
