LOCAL fishermen received a boost last week when Bridgwater Angling Association put a large number of fish into their recently-created two-acre mixed fishery pond at Combwich. The fish were supplied by Chilton Trinity company Springwood Pool Fishery and totalled 763lb, including, tench, bream, roach and rudd.

A team of 32 students from Sparsholt College, Hampshire, were employed to help with the netting and transportation project, which had been approved by the Environmental Agency. Springwood Pool Fishery boss Mike Willmott said: "This was an excellent opportunity for the students to extend their skills and knowledge."

The new fishery at Combwich was completed last November and BAA's water manager Mark Pople believes that the recent injection of fish is a positive move for the club and its members.
