There is a brilliant thread here somewhere going back several years. It's a 'commercial' which is no more than a walled garden pond. I think PaulW linked it or maybe Frothey. Find it. It's ace.

I can't remember if it was serious but I think a 12 ft rod would enable you to fish the margins on either bank without casting.
