Interesting to see that most of the top of range products (match rods-Antares and Diaflash. Feeder rods (not commercial) - Antares, Aerocast, Speedmaster and Nexave.) have vanished and not been replaced by similarly priced product. The economic downturn must be biting.
If you mean the likes of the Aero-Technium big pit carp reels, you'd be surprised. Quite a few well heeled (and a few not so well heeled) carpers do buy them. However, they usually sell for a fair bit less than RRP if you shop around.
They say those Shimano rods are tremendous to use. I wonder whether I'm too ham-fisted and inexpert to really appreciate a fine rod like those. Perhaps it is like the difference for most people between a £5 and £500 bottle of wine?
I always keep an eye on them when they come up on e-bay hoping that one day one of them will get right to the end and still at 99p (about my tackle budget at the moment ) - some hope!
