Pay for the postage at your local post office and then take it directly to your local sorting office, they will deliver it.........at least my local does.

The reason your local office only takes up to 1.5m is that the night collections are mostly done in small escort size vans. Taking into consideration that postie might have another 2 or possibly 3 collection points to call at it boils down to room in the van!!.Royal mail WILL except parcels over 1.5m if you take them to a main sorting office. To send a standard 12/13ft 2/3 piece rod in a tube by special delivery should cost around 7 quid depending on the weight.

Bob, I dont think that applies in all areas though I personally have sent two or three rods by Royal Mail and my local Post Office accepted them no problem and I live out in the sticks.

Bob,I`d ring up and check, possibly complain. Obviously the person who delt with you didn`t know his or her job.
As I said ALL MAIN offices WILL and SHOULD except the item you tried to post.

I have just come from my local post office and they have rung their queries number about this business of rods and they have stated that the maximum length is indeed 1.5 metres with no exceptions. "I didn't know that and I would have accepted a 6ft rod in a tube" she said, but not now.

Any rods longer this will have to sent by courier then, so that begs the question 'who is the cheapest and best courier?'

This new measurement/weight policy came in last year and to be honest its a pain in the arse.No-one in RM seems to really understand exactly how it works. Our office will take LONGER than 1.5m!!!. So as you said Graham IT REALLY does depend on your local office!!!

RM should really use the KISS policy!!!

As they used to!!!

STAPLES office stationary run a courier service, very cheap (?7 for a rod as i recall) not supposed to take over 1 1/2 metres but they don't seem to bother, you can send very heavy parcels for same price.
