Hi,

Is anyone using a TF Gear Classic pin? If so, how does it perform?

I've just been given some vouchers and fancied getting a modern centrepin. Whilst, I'd like to look at the Okuma Venta, the dealer that I have the vouchers for, have the TF Gear pin in stock.

I'd be using it for trotting and also ledgered for the ol' whiskers.

Cheers

And the one I got is not a Good Spinner ?

Which would make it difficult to trot with ?

I prefere the Okuma range of Pins.

ginger,

Thats not quite what I said, the Classic is a lovely reel, but it's not the most free running, it would make a lovely Static reel for Barbel Fishing.

Whereas the Okuma is one of the best runners I have ever used and a brilliant Trotting Reel, the one I use has a Garry Mills Line Guard added as I like a Line Guard.

( Sorry Mr. Roe )

They are both very good ecomical Centrepins.

Thanks. I guess given the static barbel reel comment, it may be worth a punt. As mentioned, I like the look of the okuma but have vouchers that will cover the TFG.

Job done. Managed to get a deal on a second hand Okuma Aventa Pro for the roughly same price as the TF Gear reel!

Can't wait for it to arrive so I can throw some line on it and give it a go!

You do realise that if you loosen the centre nut/screw the drum spins much more freely. If you tighten it right up it slows the spin rate right down. It acts a bit like a tension nut.

I'm over the moon with mine.

Nathan,

I do realise that and I did loosen the bolt off to what what I consider a Free Running Drum for Trotting.

But to be honest it felt as if the bolt was going to fall out and the drum had a lot of play in it !!

Good Static Pin, which is what I shall use it for.

Ok, the Okuma has arrived today and first impressions are good. Spins nicely (2 1/2 mins with a nice gentle push), ratchet switch confused me at first, but the reel feels good when attached to my rod.

I've just loaded some line and now awaiting the weekend!

I would not use a pin for barble, I have been there and had a bad knuckle for weeks, and that was only a 3lb fish!!!

Keep meaning to update this post....

I've been using the Okuma for a little while now and pretty pleased with it.

I'd like to say that I've caught loads of fish, but to be honest, the fish ain't biting near me ;) I did manage a 4lb chub, which really put up a fight. Hopefully, I'll hook a barbel and see how the centrepin handles it.
