Writing a monthly diary really does put things into perspective, fishing really is an ongoing journey with the destination forever out of reach until we put the rod away for the very last time.

I've never envied the regular angling writers' lot. Booking trips (often months) in advance, with no idea what the conditions are going to be like, and travelling many a mile then having to make the best of it to get something of note in substantive form for a piece............

As Mark's article shows, sometimes you just have to make the best fist of a bad lot.
And still construct a readable piece.
