I left mine in a South facing bedroom for a month and I think it made the carbon brittle.
Anyone using an aluminium one, they'd recommend ?

I had an ali one for about 4 years. It finally gave up this summer, the threaded insert stripped. The original insert fixing pin was rubbish, so I replaced the pin with a small self tapping screw and some epoxy resin.

I have just replaced it with a drennan red because I wanted the extra length (no, don't mock missus).

Thanks mark, I have one of those, but they can lock up in freezing conditions. The condesation freezes the locking mechanism inside. I've had to make two new ones for mine and I've only had it 8 years !

I use the Gardner carbon telescopic, it's not cheap at £35 but it's very robustly built...I'm happy with it.

I got a Middy 21" net to a four foot bank stick with the pointy bit missing. A bit of 15mm pipe lagging glued to the end provides a secure grip. Light as a feather. Less is best...

I have the drennan one which is great, however i have seen the gardner one, and the locking mechanism looks alot better than the drennan system.

smithdave: ON the off chance you missed it I seem to remember another Thread-maybe in Nov/Dec-on this subject of landing net handles.....

From memory , most seemed to favour the Drennen jobie but others were recommended........Might be worth a look!

I use a cheap take apart one bought from a French Hypermarket 10 years ago. It can be used at from four feet to 12 feet. Very useful and no mechanism to malfunction.
I have always kept it in a north facing room away from all radiators. Heat and UV can seriously harm your composite.

Not according to some reviews I e reAd recently rich. My understanding is they are over weight, over priced and poorly made.

""Chris Brown provides hand-built landing nets (and bank sticks) to a high quality, built to last, using top quality materials, backed with excellent customer service. As if the quality isn't enough, spares are available, and the products come with a lifetime guarantee covering you in the unlikely event of a mishap!

With so much quality on offer, you would be forgiven for thinking the landing nets cost a fortune, but I think you would be pleasantly surprised. The Stalker costs £78, while the Barbel Rover comes in at £88. Not the cheapest I concede, but given the features on offer, certainly not the dearest.

If you are in the market for a new landing net, have a look, I can't recommend Chris Brown Products enough.""

From a review on BFW.

and then.....

""
Quote:

I have two Chris Brown nets and if they ever break (they wont) I would buy another one.

The joint from spreader to arms is bullet proof as is the joint in the take-apart poles.

Just to be clear; I have the glass version.

Hope this helps.

Likewise - I have the glass 6'+3' extension
Dont find it heavy at all.

The net/ spreader block system is spot on - easy to get apart when you want but never comes apart of its own accord (unlike certain other major brands I can think of).""

a couple of comments from Cemex forum.

and then....

""Probably THE most bombproof bit of kit ever made. **** the looks - this net will last forever.""

a comment from Carp forum.

I could go on but that's enough time on that...... I would just google reviews and see for yourself. :)

IMHO the Drennan Super Specialist takes a lot of beating and I have yet to see better - though I have not seen the Chris Brown stuff.

I can't help thinking the bigger yer landing net the bigger yer cock rules here. Apart from carp that can be seriously big do you really need to wander about the bank with something you could put yer average fridge in ? Its the same with handles really. Anything over six foot is showing off or for the disabled.
