I Would like to start carp fishing this year. Could you advise me on what kit would be best to by.

I coarse fish at the moment and my rods and reels are ABU but with what i have read they dont seem strong enough.

I am married so dont have that much money to spend (well thats what the wife tells me) mid range price.

I'd say have a look at second gear, theres always loads of carp rods up for sale. As far as reels go yo don't have to have shimano baitrunners, there are lots of other free spool reels on the market and from what I'v heard the new baitrunners are a bit crap!

Do you have a cash converters or similar shop near you? I looked in one today and they had quite a few different bite alarms for sale in there.

There again, you need to look at the size of carp you are attempting to catch and the type of waters they are in.
Do you need specialist carp rods?

If you're looking at 20's from weedy pits then carp rods would be required, but if it's singles and doubles from clear lakes then beefier match tackle may be best.

Thanx people for that.

At the moment i fish mainly at Docklow pools
in Hereford and they are 20+ there.

I have an Abu Equilizer carp feeder but im not sure of the TC on it.
Do you think it is strong enough?
The reel is an Abu cardinal 93.

Yes have seen them in the mags just feel a unsure due to the price i know my buget is on the mid range side but what are Badger kit like?
I have seen Okuma baitcaster reels on ebay for ?25.00 they look nice but will tthey fall apart in a few months.

Would it be better to go for second hand Shimano etc?

if you can, a trip to a good local tackle shop can often be a good bet Mark.
You can see some of the kit and "feel" what its like.
....and hopefully the guy in the shop will give you some sound advice as well

mark . which pool are you fishing at docklow ? i know there are big fish in some of the pools but most have smaller carp in .
id advise against badger their service is shite , second to none . some of the kit is allright . i have some myself. dont think you can beat carplines though. not the cheapest , but good kit well described in it apperance.

Richard, I mainly fish on the moby.
I use my ledger rod and a block end feeder or a helicopter rig with a feeder.

Some times i will fish on the Mickey mouse there i just use my Abu Equilizer power match float rod.
And an Abu Cardinal 73 reel.

I just dont think my kit is strong enough.

Nice to see the plug for Carplines / Anglinglines. Being a member of the Anglinglines.com team I am obviously bias however I must add that I was a satisfied customer for many years prior to joining the team as buyer/editor. The gear is quality and its a superb prices - ideal for setting up.

Any questions drop me a line paul@anglinglines.com
