Fish-farm sewage scandal

The raw sewage leak into the Forth has caused public outrage and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency has announced an investigation.

However, the extent of the leak palls into insignificance when compared to the volume of untreated sewage Scotland's foreign-owned salmon farms discharge each year into West Highland and Islands coastal waters.

It is estimated the volume of untreated waste discharged from salmon farms is the equivalent of untreated waste from a human population of more than ten million people. The fish farmers have used our coastal waters as a toilet for more than two decades.
