EXPERTS and fishermen have been left baffled by the mysterious deaths of wildlife along a normally thriving stretch of river in the Yorkshire Dales.

Members of Ingleton Angling Association, who normally fish in the River Doe, near Kingsdale, fear that the crystal clear waters may have been contaminated with a mysterious substance.

Over the past weeks, members of the group have found dead fish along a three-quarters-of-a-mile stretch of the river, as well as the decomposing remains of two foxes close to the water.

In addition, the anglers say that the stretch of river, which is normally teeming with brown trout, is utterly "devoid of life" with an angler spotting one of the remaining fish "gasping for air".
