I don't know ****y, you certainly know how to make up a tale. I can't remember any of that. Oh except the part about the camp chef, he certainly is ;-)

The rod we used for the waggler was my spinning rod; a little lighter than the carp rod, but still barely adequate. When Mark arrived, he had a 13' DAM tele waggler, which he used in conjunction with a centrepin loaded with 4lb Maxima. It was fine when we were only catching those 8oz to 1lb fish, once the 5&6lbers moved in, he had no chance.
I managed to land one of 6lb on the spinning rod and 6lb line, but the Drennan Super Specialists I was using to fish hair-rigged pellet kept opening out on the initial run.

Cracking tale, mate, had to sit down with an Old Monk and Coke to take it all in. Luckily, my drink went down my throat...

****y, what an adventure mate!

I love your style of writing. It's bad enough having rats and mink scaring the you know what out of you at night, but tigers............friggin hell!!!

I really enjoyed reading it, well done.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. In Part 3, I hope to persuade you all to go!

I'd like to personally welcome my favourite travelling buddy and Mahseer hunter extraordinaire...

Steve 'formerly a matchman but now a bit confused having developed a liking for specimen hunting' Lockett to the forum ;-)

How can you call me a specimen hunter when I enjoy fishing for 1lb mahseer more than catching those great big monsters?

Did catch some carp to well over 10lbs last week, (check out next week's Angler's Mail for details) does that put me in specimen hunting territory?
Mind, I was fishing pellets on my Reactorlite No1 with a pellet waggler shallow.

If you keep taunting me, I may have to divulge how you imbibe your rum, Rich LOL

Wow ****y what an excellent read! It is my dream to do something like that, but then again the thought of tigers wandering about would scare the life out of me, i'm a wimp when it comes to things like that.

But i'd certainly be up for a fish-in there Lee sort it!

Hey Rick, how's your trip going?

Good thanks Wendy. I've had a small bout of 'Ghandi's revenge' but survived to tell the story!

I'm currently In Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. I'm hoping to get the fly rod out in the next couple of days. The problem is; it's so difficult to get information. And sometimes you need to get a permit for somewhere from 50 miles away!

Watch this space.

Don't think the local wildlife association would take too kindly to a whole bunch of anglers landing on the doorstep.
If you got serious about running a trip, there are many more places to go and catch a mahseer than the Kaveri. Southern India is full of fish-filled rivers, and more fish than just mahseer.
As you're all a bunch of forward-looking, trail blazing anglers, why not open up new territory. I can certainly help with ideas for venues, contacts on the ground and logistics.

Hi Lee, ****y has talked about you quite a lot. Didn't realise you were so old ;-)
I'm only allowed into India nowadays because I started going before I hit 35! LOL

To give you something to aim for, I'm well over 40, Mark Everard is 50 and a chap known as Vagabond on several other forums came to do a spot of mahseer taming this year. If I remember rightly, he is in his 80s.

I have places to stay where you can be very comfortable...

Steve what would the cost of say a 10 day/14 day trip be?

I think there maybe 4-6 on here that would seriously like to have a go.

I have been to Goa previously so the place isnt totally alien to me but I would like to go a bit off road
