It really is nice to see someone of the calibre of Alan Yates writing about salt water angling again.

However a thousand wild horses would not get me to go fishing in the sea off the UK at this time of the year. Sea angling to me means balmy early morning or evening breezes blowing across the surf from the Indian or Pacific Oceans with the chance of a Kingie, Bluefish or Queenie tearing off line through the waves.

Or sitting in a small boat in an African river estuary with the chance of a couple of grunter or jewfish.

Such happy memories.

Strange that Ron as it means to me ....

Bright crispy cold starlit nights, calm seas and the rod top jabbing away as the whiting bite freely. Bags of fun on a carp rod, two hook flapper rig and light lead set up whether from beach, rock or pier.

or

Gales blowing, wind howling so you have to shout to your mate next to you, waves crashing into or over the breakwater, 6oz of lead hurled as far as conditions will allow, and then the wait for the jab jab pull as a codling snaffles the cocktail of peeler and lug.

either for me really but as for summer conditions no thanks.
