But its OK to discharge millions of gallons into the same river if it rains too heavily in London

Slipways and parking spaces... Thames-side dwellers would, right down to the 2-day-old latest addition to their super-confident, articulate, affluent and well-connected Nimby ranks, take anyone trying to build such unimaginable blots on their landscape to the highest court in the land...

But there are plenty of places where it can be done and would affect no one at all.
EGs: Marlow, Queen Street, nice slipway, but once you've launched your boat and put all your tackle in it, you have to leave it and drive the best part of a mile to park your car - and pay extra for the trailer!!!
Or Bourne End, where there is a belting car park (FREE) just 100 yards from the river (abutting a field that belongs to County Council) and NO slipway. Why can't the EA negotiate with the CC and build one?
Answer - because no one gives a toss! Grab the money and do nowt!
