An Ide.
Jerry

On closer examination it appears a bit short of scales on the lateral line (I believe it should have mid 50s to be an Ide - is it possibly a roach chub hybrid?

Lookin at the scales they do look small but it still looks like a chub to me...maybe not.

Concave dorsal; not a chub.
Not sure if chub ever hybridise, and I've never seen an ide, but there seem to be plenty escaping into rivers, so that's probably the safest bet.

I make the lateral line count 56 which would fit for Ide.
The mouth looks too small for Chub, and the Dorsal and Tail look too pointy.

The dorsal fin, small-ish mouth and the lateral line count would lead me towards thinking its an Ide.

They are very common in Scandinavia and if you were on the right river pegs you could easily win sections and matches with a netful of Ide.

I've never caught one in the UK though, pity really as they can fight well on light-ish tackle.

Good counting BW, after I decided an Ide on first sight I went back and counted
around 49/50 .......should have gone to Specsavers:eek:mg:.

300 yards from the Wensum!

Nice fish. Not sure at all, but i am leaning towards Ide now. At first i thought it was just an unusual looking chub, with more strongly coloured anal and pectoral fins.

Golden Orfe, which are an ornamental form of Ide feel different to the touch than roacjh or chub - the scales are more "prickly" for want of a better explanation. But then again it is some time since i handled any.
