I'm gonna fish a local lake next week, hopefully, that is supposed to be having a bit of a crayfish problem...

I'd like to go for carp, tench and bream...

Can anyone offer advice on avoiding the crayfish menace?

Thanks

one of the methods was to put the bait in a mesh bag, another was to use pop ups if fishing boilies and another was to fish really hard baits

This is not a solution that I have tried myself, but one that I've been told it is very effective on some venues.

You take a tin of cat or dog food and make multiple punctures the sides of the can with a skewer.
Then attach a string or strong nylon to the tin and position in your swim well away from the area that you will actually fish.

The idea is that the crays will be attracted to the tin and leave your baits alone.

Maybe its worth a try.

PS - Don't forget though to recover the tin at the end of the session.

Often the crays will be concentrated around the margins and baits fished further out do not get nailed as often. On the waters I'm fishing at the moment (which have loads of crays) margin baits get immediate attention whereas those fished at over 20 yards get very little.
