I usually make my own ground bait and for a time i was taking great lenths to grind it as fine as possible then put it through a flour riddle to make it even finer, the theory being not to over feed the fish when using it.
For the last couple of months i've gone back to using vitalin for my float fishing, just with water added at the bankside then mashed up a bit then I feed marble sized balls each cast wth maybe a little bit of chopped worms, a pellet inside or dipped in a few maggots this works on every single water i've tried it on and for almost all species and i can keep the swim going all day.

Now vitalin is a very coarse ground bait to use with alot of food content but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
