Lovely book Ron wish I could afford the leather bound copy, but I will try to buy the cloth edition.I have "No need to lie" by **** Walker published in 1964 by E.M Art and publishing ltd I believe it was an Angling times publication, the copy i have is in extremely fine condition with it`s original dust jacket plus a yellow sleeve price banner over the dust jacket saying special price reduced from 35 shillings to 15 shillings.got it at acar boot sale along with the A.A angling gazetter paid 2quid the pair.Keep looking there are still treasures out there.there is a bloke on flea bay trying to sell a copy of no need to lie signed by Walker and Fred Taylor he`s asking ?900. Is it worth that kind of dosh? Anyone got any veiws on high values for this kind of thing, are they really worth hundreds of pounds? what do you think?

There's no definite rules for estimating the price of autographed books, especially in a specialist subject such as Angling. Valuations usually depend on gathering comparable sales evidence of similar products. I imagine the book, with signatures by Walker and Taylor, is a one-off.

The seller is using the normal negotiating ploy of asking an outrageous price, to soften up bidders and make them bid higher.

You never know, there could be someone out there willing to pay such a high price. In that case, the book would then be worth the ?900 asking price.

Keith, I think the man on Flea-Bay is just sitting there patiently fishing waiting for the Lesser Striped Mug Punter to swim along, still nobody`s forcing them to buy it! you`d have to be really keen to part up with that kind of dosh though! Cheers Mate!

I have a copy of Successful Angling here that was given to my wife and I (mentioned) and signed by all four authors. F.J. Taylor, **** Walker, Hugh Falkus and Fred Buller. I guess that would be of interest to some.

Chevin, I remember reading Successful Angling, it was a good book with lots of useful advice. I should have bought a copy when it came out.

With fishing books I'm concerned only as to the quality of the content.

I'm still eagerly awaiting delivery of my copy of Barries biography which I hope and expect will become very dog-eared in the years to come.

So am I Andy. My copy of The Stone Walker Letters has become very dog eared, as has my copy of Jim Gibbinson's "A Glorious Waste of Time".

By the way, has any of you received the Walker Biography yet?

They have had my money for some time now and I haven't seen hide or hair of it yet!

Ron I had an e-mail from medlar on monday to say the book had been despatched, its not arrived yet!
Agree with you about Stone - walker letters, proberbly the best read I've had over the last six months. Such so that once I reached the end, I re-read straight away. Most of Peter Stones books/articles have had the same effect.
I hope the new Walker book will be as good!

If FJT says that it's a good book, it must be.

I've known BR a long time and have virtually all the books he has ever written. His best was "Angling - Fundamental Principles" up until this one that is.

Barrie goes to a lot of trouble to make sure what that he writes is accurate and will read well.

The Stone Walker Letters, as well as Drop Me a Line, were of course, never intended for publication. But that's what makes them such compulsive reading.

I really enjoyed the Stone Walker letters which really convey the essence of what specimen angling ought to be about.

Mind you Andy, old Stoney must have had one heck of the thick skin to be able to endure Walker's pi** taking!

Mine arrived at 7-30 this morning. The postman knocked me up!

Graham suggested that I write a full editorial review on the book, which I will do in due course.

First impressions are that this is an enormous work. And although many will not think so, it's worth every bit of ?35.

And I feel very honoured indeed to get a mention in the acknowledgements.
