What is a Lode and what is its origin ? and if they are ancient they why aren't they protected as ancient historical features and / or as SSI's ?
Registration as such might offer Alternative and parallel avenues of attack perhaps ?

OK, don't bother, seen the other thread in predators. A worthy cause seems to me, if Roman then 1000 years to survive and maintain + ten minutes for some officious control freak busy body civil servant to wipe it out for ever. Not really on.... do I take it that the RSPB have got their oar stuck in on the "we want endless wetlands" front ? Not that they ever give a thought to the maintenance of such things, witness the destruction of the Broads, to no-one's advantage, least alone the birds. Pretty hard to nest and feed in stagnant dead water with no fish.
