this lake is full of perch

i was float fishing yesterday and all i was caught was perch wether it be in the margins or in the middle and all was under 6 oz .this isn't a rant just couldn't understand why i caught no roach .

6oz perch can be voracious feeders it's probably just that any small roach couldn't get a look in.

I'd have been in heaven! Why not forget the roach for the moment and try targetting the perch instead? If you were getting them up to 6oz, there's a good chance that there are some even bigger ones there just waiting to give you some good sport.

You were obviously using maggots? Don't bother, use bread or hemp and tares, anything the perch won't feed on and you'll give yourself a much better chance of catching the roach.

yet i went to another lake and caught roach on the same maggots that i bought yesterday

Following on from what Janet said, I would have stuck one of the small perch on as a livebait and watched with interest.
